WHEEL & RIM REFURBISHING

The STS rim and wheel refurbishment process uses powder coating technology as an alternative to liquid coatings. Powder coating is durable, economical, efficient, and environmentally friendly. It produces a high quality finish that is available in a broad range of colors, reduces maintenance and extends the life of the coated rim.

The process of refurbishing a wheel is relatively simple: First, the wheel is placed in an automated "shot blaster" that uses specialized steel shot propelled to very high velocities to clean every surface of the wheel. Next, the wheel is sprayed with a fine layer of dry paint, called "powder coat", that is tightly bound to the wheel by induced static electricity. Finally, the wheel is placed in an oven to melt the powder, which then flows and fuses into a continuous coating that is very hard and has no porosity.

At each step of the process the wheel is inspected for damage such as cracking that would make the wheel unsafe to use.
